New York Jets coach Rex Ryan apologized Sunday for making an obscene gesture at a mixed martial arts event. Ryan was booed Saturday night while doing a TV interview at the MMA event in the Bank Atlantic Center, the Florida Panthers' home arena. He was smiling when caught making the gesture by a cell phone camera.

In light of finger gate which is currently plaguing New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan, new evidence shows that he was provoked into flipping the bird heard round the world.
While attending Saturday night’s MMA “Strikeforce” event in South Florida, Rex was a big hit with the crowd, in the wrong way. There for the fight Rex was called names and booed loudly as he gave an interview saying that the Jets were “Coming to Miami twice next season to beat the Dolphins”. Later, Rex was caught on a camera phone flipping the bird and smiling to a group of fans.
According to ProFootballTalk.com:
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Ryan directed the middle finger at one specific guy who had been badgering Ryan relentlessly. “He crossed way over the line,” the source said of the person who provoked Ryan.
The guy accosted Ryan at least three times, yelling “f–k you” and “I hate you” from close distance. Eventually, Ryan lost his cool.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says that the league “will look into” the situation as to whether or not Rex will be fined for his middle finger.

Yeah Mike, I stand corrected. Not ONE player who has been on the cover of that game has not had a great season afterwards because of suffering some kind of injury. Brett Favre should have been IR’ed but I know he talked Mangini and the others out of it. It was Super Bowl or BUST!

Manish Mehta, a writer for the Newark Star-Ledger who covers the Jets, posted a link today that Rex Ryan was caught on film flipping dolphins fans the finger.
Manish Tweeted:
Miami Herald reports #Jets Rex Ryan flipped the bird 2Dolphins fans @MMAevent. Courtesy of @ArmandoSalguerohttp://tinyurl.com/6jqluo #nfl

I happened to be flipping through the channels late last night and came across the MMA event. I could have sworn I caught the end of what looked like someone interviewing Rex Ryan, but it flipped off frame before I could get a good look. (UPDATE: I found the video on YouTube)
I stayed on the channel because I saw that Herschel Walker was making is MMA Debut. (On a sidebar, Walker is a BEAST of a man for 47 years old. I did watch the fight and he DESTROYED his opponent Nagy.)
Going back to Rex and his interaction with the Dolphin Fans:
According to David M. Hildenbrand of Miami, he and his friends approached Ryan and told them they were Dolfans. I’m not certain if they said anything else to him, anything that might have upset the coach.
But Ryan’s reaction to the fans was quick and visceral. He shot the fans the bird.
And the fans shot Ryan shooting them the bird (with their camera). They e-mailed the picture to various local media types including myself and Jorge Sedano of 790 The Ticket.
Even IF, Rex was caught on tape flipping the bird to the Dolphins fans, as a Jets fan I really don’t have an opinion. I know what Rex stands for, I know he can’t stand any team in our division, and I’m going to wait to see if the coach was provoked. I know what you are going to say, he should be a role model and he should act like a leader at all times. If this was done at an NFL event OR at a charity then YES I have a big problem, but this occurred at a fight during off hours.
In a world of technology, EVERYONE owns a camera and can video record anyone at any given time. I’m giving the coach a pass on this one, even if he did it.
DO YOU AGREE WITH ME? Let me know in the comments!
UPDATE: I found the interview and a CLEAN picture of Rex and his finger.
