Technology is definitely changing the way we live our lives to let’s say 15 years ago. The public internet as we know it today was just starting to take off, there was no such thing as social media, and if you had a cell phone you were in the minority.
In a day and age where instant gratification and on demand rules, there is so much information coming at us. In the NFL and other sports Twitter has opened a window into the players lives where we the average fans get to interact with players as well as being able to see them interact with each other.
Let's Hope This is Not How They Talk
Well now, in a first in the NFL, a suspended player will be able to communicate with his starting QB on a daily basis using the technology Skype.
Skype (pronounced /ˈskaɪp/) is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional landline telephones and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a debit-based user account system
Rich Cimini from ESPN reports:
Following up on an earlier item, a league spokesman said there’s no rule that prohibits a suspended player from communicating with a teammate during his suspension.
In his news conference, Rex Ryan mentioned that WR Santonio Holmes has “already talked about skyping with Mark (Sanchez) every day about going over the offensive plays.” Starting Friday, Holmes will serve a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. The violation occurred when he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Ryan didn’t seem to know if skyping is legal.
“Well, I hope so,” he said. “Let’s hold off on that for now. Let’s make a phone call real quick.”
Actually, skyping is unnecessary. On a suspension of less than one year, the player is allowed to be at the team facility and participate in team activities other than practice, at the club’s discretion, according to a league spokesman. The rule was changed several years ago.
It’s widely assumed that suspended players can’t be around their team. Not so. You learn something every day.
Indeed. I love Technology.

Braylon Edwards [@OfficialBraylon], er uh, #thebeard, had tweeted yesterday that there would be a big announcement about his t-shirts and he didn’t break his promise launching two beard shirts today on his website: http://braylonedwards.com/. You can purchase one in green and white (Jets), and one in blue and gold (Michigan).
For $30.00 you have your choice of shirts from Edwards’ site and if you are thinking the price is a little steep be assured that ALL of the proceeds go to his charity.
OfficialBraylon (Tweet from TheBeard) Be the 1st to support me & Braylons foundation by going to BraylonEdwards.Com & ordering your very own #TheBeardTShirt 31 Aug 2010 from Twitter for iPhone
He even made a promise to Darrelle Revis that if the the cornerback came back he would make him a deal on a shirt:
OfficialBraylon Yo @Revis24 I promise if you come back 2maro I got a #TheBeard tshirt for you 25% off LOL Come on back bro! 31 Aug 2010 from Twitter for iPhone
Braylon clearly understands marketing and it was brilliant to create a character and tweet from his beard. It has become all the talk in New York and people focus on it and want to see it up close. I even got off a couple of great shots because well, it’s so easy to see from the stands!

Santonio Holmes expects to be plenty busy in the New York Jets' preseason finale. While the starters will sit out, it will be the wide receiver's last chance to play before he serves a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Holmes says he'd like to try get about 20 catches at Philadelphia on Thursday night.
