- Santonio Holmes [@Santonio10] continues to impress me with what I see off the field. I liked what I saw from him on episode 2 of Hard Knocks when he was mentoring Joe McKnight on the side line. Now, I found a story where he donated cleats and gloves to the Lincoln H.S. football team.
Wande and Holmes had been looking for ways to get the receiver involved in the community. “Santonio wanted to find ways to help out in the community, he’s had a lot of ideas.” Wande added.
Holmes purchased the equipment through his contract with Reebok, and sent them right to Lincoln.
“I heard through the Jets,” Holmes said via email. “They were aware of the lack of equipment and the needs of the athletic department. Based on their needs I decided to donate to Lincoln High School.”
Holmes and Hampton never met when the coach came to the Jets OTA camp, yet the Jets receiver would like the opportunity to meet him and the Lincoln football team.
“I would like to visit the school and talk to the kids about following your dreams and staying focused in order to reach your goals,” Holmes added.
- Mark Sanchez appears to be trying to avoid all distractions off the field. He’ll be limiting his TV appearance and just providing the minimum to the media.
“We’ve been told not to expect Mark to do anything extra – interviews, appearances – outside of what’s basically his normal media responsibilities,” a network source said.
The spy added that this wasn’t the Jets’ idea, but Sanchez’s.
Does this mean Sanchez has decided to fulfill only the necessary media requirements mandated by the league? Is all this because he doesn’t want extracurricular activities to get in the way of his day job, playing quarterback?
Maybe Sanchez is actually tired of being distracted.
